From Classroom to Coach: My Journey into Instructional Coaching

I want to share with you a personal story of transition — from the front of the classroom to behind hte scenes as an instructional coach.

It’s been quite the journey, filled with challenges, growth, and a whole lot of learning along the way. So, grab a cup of tea (or coffee, if you’re like me 😉), and let’s dive in.

The Decision to Transition

After years of teaching in the high school English classroom, I found myself craving a new challenge. I’d kind of painted myself into a corner as the “only” teacher who could teach certain classes, and I could feel myself becoming bored with the idea of teaching the exact same class year after year.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved teaching and cherished the connections I made with my students. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more I could do to make a broader impact on teaching and learning.

Enter Instructional Coaching

And so, I made the leap into the world of instructional coaching. It was a decision filled with excitement and a touch of trepidation. As an instructional coach, I would be stepping out of my comfort zone and into a role that required me to support teachers in their professional growth and development.

As I prepared for this new chapter in my career, I knew I needed guidance and support to navigate the transition effectively. That’s when I stumbled upon the Teacher Transition online course. Developed by experienced educators who had made the transition from teaching to other fields themselves, this course was a game-changer for me.

The Teacher Transition Online Course

The course provided me with invaluable insights and practical strategies for transitioning from the classroom into instructional design or customer success.

I know, this isn’t what I ended up doing. But I learned a lot about new technologies and tools, as well as adult learning theory.

The learning process for adults is not the same as high schoolers, and this course gave me a new perspective on how to create and organize professional development opportunities for teachers.

Navigating the Challenges

Of course, the transition wasn’t without its challenges. I had to adjust to a new set of responsibilities and expectations, learn to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics, and find my footing as a coach. But with the support of the Teacher Transition course and my fellow coaches, I was able to overcome these challenges and grow into my role with confidence.

The Rewards of Coaching

And let me tell you, the rewards of this new role have been immense.

Every day, I have the privilege of working with dedicated educators who are committed to improving their practice and making a difference in the lives of their students. Whether it’s collaborating on lesson planning, providing feedback on instructional strategies, or facilitating professional learning communities, I am constantly inspired by the passion and dedication of my colleagues.

Final Thoughts

So, to all my fellow educators out there who are considering making the leap into instructional coaching, I say go for it! It may be a challenging journey, but the rewards are more than worth it. And if you’re looking for guidance and support along the way, I highly recommend checking out the Teacher Transition online course. Trust me, it’s a game-changer.
